Victory for Jack Smith in Race 1 made sure that Vermin Racing Team's return to the ARL series was a success.
Alongside Jack, Alex Cochrane is promoted to the main Vermin Team for this ARL campaign. ARL has one of the closest and challenging championships in Assetto Corsa, using locked setups all drivers are competing on a level platform. With the top 15 covered by just over a second in qualifying, Jack missed out on pole by just 0.065 to rival Prins. Alex managed to line up 14th on the grid less than a second behind Jack.
Race 1 saw an amazing display of racecraft from the front half of the field, with battles all the way down to 10th, close racing with a huge degree of respect and skill as no one made contact despite all being very close on track. As the race unfolded Jack would have to sit behind Prins for a majority of the race, applying pressure on him towards the dying laps, Jack made a brave move on the final lap to snatch the victory. Alex kept his head down and nose clean and managed to finish a very respectable and solid 7th, ensuring he would be on Pole for race 2.
Race 2 again set about providing the thrills and spills of F3 racing. Alex got away well and put up a strong defensive drive for several laps before the slowly dropping backwards to finally finish 8th. Jack made the most of his position, dropping back to 12th and then fighting up to 5th by the end of the race. However in a bit of a reverse of race 1, it was Alex who now found himself battling for 8th with Prins in the remaining laps of the race. Prins found a way past despite Alex's excellent defensive driving, only for Alex to retake the position a lap later and bring it home in 8th.
Both Alex and Jack can be proud of their results and we shall see if either driver can improve upon things for the next round at Austria on the 13th of June.
