One step to the first title in the Betano National Digital Circuit Championship
Without winning any qualifications or a round of competition in this round, Williams settled into the lead before the final battle. Installed at the helm of the championship since the end of the previous stage, following the ranking changes resulting from the analysis of the race incidents, Oscar Williams obtains at Spa-Francorchamps the most important result of this season. Although he missed the fifth success in as many stages, the Briton finished each of the two rounds in second place.
With a more than convincing evolution, having the fastest lap in each round, he collected 35 points and will leave with an advantage of 11 points in the last battle of this season. 11 points that actually become 20, if we consider that the total calculation includes the best seven results out of a total of eight, Dragoș Simion being one of the pilots who will have to give up the worst result in 2020.
QUALIFICATIONS: Șuteanu, again in pole position
For the second time in a row, Mihai Șuțeanu managed to dominate the qualifications and ensure his departure from the best position at the start of the first round on the superb circuit at Spa-Francorchamps. A result that did nothing but confirm that the successful pole position at Imola was far from the result. Although he did his best to change this outcome, Oscar Williams had to accept only the second position on the starting grid, for a difference of only 19 thousandths of a second.
On the second line, the battle for the third position was even more contested, Emanuel Gaczella managing to overtake Dragoș Simion by only 3 thousandths of a second. But the fourth position achieved by the former leader of the championship was already a sign that he is determined to play his chance to the end. Victor Taras and Urmas Riis shared their places on the third line, while the Top Ten qualifiers were completed by Maximilian Junger, Leo Borlovan, Bogdan Mutu and Lukas Hellmann. Florin Mergea did not manage to repeat the good evolutions from the previous stages and finished 17th, in a position that practically took him out of the battle for the first places.
ROUND I: Simion imposes itself strategically There will certainly be a lot of talk about the first leg of the Belgian stage of the Betano National Digital Circuit Championship. And this is because we are talking about a race in which we witnessed an unparalleled duel between Dragoș Simion, Oscar Williams and Mihai Șuțeanu. Starting from pole position, Mihai Șuțeanu played on Willi Motorsport's card and took the lead. But not to try to break away, but only to keep Oscar Williams behind him, so that his colleague Dragos Simion can approach the British and try to attack him. Impeccable strategy from Willi Motorsport, who have largely achieved their goal. I say this because - supported by Mihai Șuțeanu - Dragoș Simion would achieve his goal. Despite the victory, Dragoș Simion lost the leading position in the general classification. He passed Oscar Williams and finished the race in the winning position. And this in the conditions in which the victory was the only ingredient that was missing from the former leader's quiver. And things could have been even more beautiful if Mihai Șuțeanu had managed to secure the double for Willi Motorsport. Put in the situation of dueling with two opponents simultaneously, Oscar Williams did everything humanly possible. He overtook Șuțeanu, continuously attacked Simion and finished in second place at 3.51 tenths of a second behind the winner. Of course, many would have expected the Briton to risk a little more in the attempt to achieve the fifth consecutive success in the first round. But that never happened again, Williams being perfectly aware of the importance of the result. Behind those who fought on the podium, Leo Borlovan managed to finish fourth after leaving the race from eighth position. A remarkable result for the Timisoara player with better and better performances from one stage to another, the GP24 E-Sports pilot being the only one who - mathematically speaking - can still intervene in the "business" between Oscar Williams and Dragoș Simion. The places in the Top Ten were filled by Emanuel Gaczella, Maximilian Junger, Victor Taras, Robert Prepeliță, Lukas Hellmann and Urmas Riis. With only three places won compared to the starting position, Florin Mergea ranked 14th and practically came out of the battle for the title. ROUND II: Victor Taraș confirms with important success After a first half hour in which I watched with all my heart the dispute between Dragoș Simion, Oscar Williams and Mihai Șuțeanu, it was obvious that the battle will continue in the second round. In even harsher conditions, dictated by the departure of the top ten ranked in reverse order. The tension was maximum and this would be seen at the end, when only 23 of the total of 30 competitors will cross the finish line. The victory went to Victor Taras, who also puts his name on the list of winners and also climbs to sixth place in the championship. The only one who tried to dethrone him was Oscar Williams. Starting from the ninth position, he saw his race and after crocheting his opponents slowly but surely, he would cross the finish line second, at 7.6 hundredths of a second of the winner! He attacked the leader, tried to pass in front of him but - once again - without risking an incident that would shatter his "construction" from the previous four stages. At a great distance, Maximilian Junger secured his last position on the podium, while Dragoș Simion came fourth, followed by Emanuel Gaczella and Mihai Șuțeanu. But fourth place doesn't mean much to the former leader, who knows he will have to give up one of the eight results he will count at the end of the championship. Conditions in which, his mission becomes more and more difficult.
But things will be clear next weekend, when the end of the race on the Motorpark circuit will consecrate the first champion of a race born in the middle of a pandemic.
