Max Hamelink dominated the latest round of the Formula Trout Indy Car series at Sebring.
From practice to race day, Max topped the timesheets impressively nearly 2 seconds faster than his nearest rival, managing to stay ahead in the drivers standings. Triple Eight's Alex Cochrane also showed a great turn of speed and put his car in the mix and in contention for 2nd place on race day, however a few costly errors saw him drop back to the mid pack nursing some damage but keeping pace, even catching the guys in front to jump back into contention after the fuel and tyre changes, only to slam into the wall and unfortunately, retirement after his engine blew into turn 1.
Richard Tippet made a steady return, not really matching his practice pace in qualifying, but kept his car on track and lapping well towards the second half of the race, with the attrition rate quite high, Richard managed to cross the line a surprised 4th place, after being away from sim racing for nearly year and picking up valuable points for the team championship.
Triple Eight's Keira Harris impressed everyone with her consistency and abilty during a very hard race. She kept herself out of trouble and managed to run as high as 5th place on her debut, before an excruciating pit stop saw her drop all the way to the back of the field. Determination saw her rejoin and eventually picking up 7th place. Keira will hopefully build upon her performance for the next round at Pocono Oval.
Although this round saw a reduced grid size the quality of racing was still amazing, with some very fierce battles throughout the pack but mostly a show of respect between all drivers. With some big names missing including our own Maxi Junger and Oscar Williams we can only hope the grid size goes back up for the next race in two weeks time.
